women in developed and developing countries

Last week, i had a seminar of forestry resources on natural resources and we were discussing points whereby women in developing countries especially the one who live in rural areas; has no right or it is their culture to be quiet, where the men are the one who speak out for them. It is believed that men are the bread winner and the head of households therefore, every decision made by the men. However, for works such as picking or collecting woods are done by the women but they do not have rights to say what's on their mind. On the other hand, women in developed countries, have more courage/ rights to speak out for their own, it is either because they are more educated compare to its counterparts or those countries have been through modernization.
In developing countries, such as Indonesia, i remembered when i was young, the elderly people such as parents, relatives, teachers, would tell us that husband/father is the breadwinner and he is the head of the household. Isnt that can be interpreted that men i.e husband/father is the one who decide on everything? while the role of a wife is inferior than the husband? while some believe that husband and wife have equal position. I think it affects us when we study overseas as it can be seen that girls/ women from developing countries are more reserved and shy compared to developed one. Another problem is because of the language.
